Our Trustees (Members/ Directors)

The Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust is governed by a board of trustees made up of business people and educational specialists.

The board of trustees is responsible for monitoring and ensuring standards and achievement across the Trust’s schools; efficiency and effectiveness of executive leadership and services across the schools; and the strategic direction of the Trust as it responds to local and national demands and policy.

The trust currently has two members; Shirley Jamieson and David Ruddy.
The trust is working on filling its existing three vacancies.

    Shirley Jamieson

    Chair of Trustees.
    Link Trustee: Nene Park Academy

    Shirley is Head of Marketing at Cambridge Enterprise Limited which is the commercialisation office of the University of Cambridge.

    In 1999 Shirley co-authored the successful bid on behalf of the University of Cambridge to create the Cambridge Entrepreneurship Centre. Shirley was Head of External Relations at the Centre, which in 2004 evolved into Cambridge Enterprise and became a limited company, 100% owned by the University in 2006.

    David Ruddy

    Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
    Link Trustee: Sawtry Village Academy

    David worked in the motor industry for over 35 years, starting as an apprentice mechanical engineer and then holding various other roles with both private and blue chip companies – culminating in a number of senior executive positions within the Jardine motor group.

    Seeking new challenges and passionate about education he has worked in the Further Education sector for 5 years and is the Director of Employability and Community Learning at West Suffolk College with responsibility for community learning, Traineeships, ESOL, English and Maths and pre-employment programs across Suffolk and south Norfolk.

    Alan Hardy

    Trustee & Chair of Finance Committee.

    Alan has a degree in Business Studies and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He has worked within finance in the industrial sector for over 40 years and has had experience in multi-national organisations as well as small privately-owned businesses.

    In the last 6 years of his full-time career he was the Finance Director for a division of a US multinational group.

    John Hall MBE

    Trustee & Chair of Personnel Committee.

    After an early career as a teacher at Wetherby High School he left teaching to work in Antarctica for a few years. With the exception of two years as a warden/ranger in the Northumberland National Park he has remained with the British Antarctic Survey in a variety of roles since the 1970’s.

    Neil Grimston TD

    Trustee, Chair of Premises Committee & Northstowe development lead

    Formerly an investment banker at JPMorgan Chase, Neil has held leadership roles in Europe, Asia and USA in public, private and third sector. Served as independent non-executive director Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and millennium master City of London livery company.

    In education, Neil chaired boards/committees at Westminster City Council, London Borough Richmond upon Thames Council and advisor to DfE.

    Roger Moore

    Trustee & Academy Council Chair at Stamford Welland Academy

    I am married with two grown up children and two grandchildren. I have a keen interest in sport, playing cricket, football and badminton and now a keen spectator of any sport. I enjoy gardening and DIY in my spare time

    Apart from training and qualifying as a mining engineer I have spent the last 45 years in education as a teacher, headteacher, senior inspector for Lincolnshire, education consultant, Initial Teacher Training Tutor, National College for Teaching and Leadership Consultant and school governor for 32 years at 7 different schools.

    Lesley Birch

    Trustee & Exec Principal of CPET.

    Lesley began teaching as a PE/Science specialist in a secondary school in London. She then moved on to a middle school in Hertfordshire. 4 years later she was promoted to be KS2 Leader in a Cambridgeshire primary School.  Having gained a Masters Degree at Cambridge University, Lesley became Deputy Head in a large primary school.

    Mark Squires

    Link Trustee: North Cambridge Academy

    Mark worked in the telecommunications industry for nearly 4 decades, starting as an apprentice with Pye in Cambridge where he worked in electronic engineering and sales, rising to senior project management after the company was acquired by Philips. He moved to join Hutchison Telecom to work on partnerships and, later, the launch of the UK Orange mobile network.

    Paul Phillipson

    Paul Phillipson was born in Peterborough and has worked and lived all over Cambridgeshire.
    He served with Cambridgeshire Constabulary for 30 years working in all departments and finishing his career as the Chief Superintendent in charge of Peterborough Police.
    He then started a career in Local Government as the Executive Director of Operations for Peterborough City Council dealing with a broad range of services including planning and Highways.

    Jim Kennedy


    Jim has worked as an executive manager and HR Director for over 20 years in international companies. The organisations for which he led their HR functions have gone through extensive change which resulted in lasting, positive outcomes for customers, employees and shareholders. He has worked overseas extensively and was also resident in the US for several years.

    Mark Woods

    Trustee and CEO

    Mark began his teaching career as an English teacher at the Deacon’s School in Peterborough. He then moved to become the Second in English at the Jack Hunt School, Peterborough. Mark was then promoted to Head of English at Sawtry Community College in Cambridgeshire.  In January 2003, he was appointed as the Vice Principal of Swavesey VC.
