Half marathon is back for another year

Last year’s popular Swavesey Half Marathon is set to return again to the streets of Swavesey on Sunday 02 March 2014.

Staff and students at Swavesey Village College are ready to unfold the next Swavesey Half Marathon and parallel five mile run and are inviting all runners and fitness fanatics from across the region to sign-up now and take part in what was heralded as a great success last year.

Sink your teeth into Swavesey Youth Theatre!

This year’s imaginative production from Swavesey Youth Theatre sees 20 talented young actors sharpening up for their forthcoming adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

The new performance venue at Swavesey Village College, on Gibraltar Lane, will transform into a Transylvanian vampire’s castle over a two-night run of performances on Thursday 5th December 2013 and Friday 6th December 2013.

Pupils’ 10 mile walk raises thousands for good causes

Pupils from North Cambridge Academy raised thousands for good causes as they completed a 10 mile walk to their partner school, Swavesey Village College, for charity. A confirmed grand total of £3,537.98 was raised in this single venture, exceeding all expectations.

Martin Bacon is recognised with Lifetime Achievement Award

The legacy of Martin Bacon, the inspirational Executive Principal of Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust, was recognised as he received the Cambridge News Lifetime Achievement Award 2013.

It was with great sadness that Mr Bacon passed away after a long battle with illness at the Sue Ryder Hospice, Thorpe Hall, Peterborough at 5am on 13th May 2013.

Swavesey records impressive GCSE results

Swavesey Village College has recorded another set of impressive GCSE results this year with 98 per cent of pupils passing with 5 or more A* – C grades, and 80 per cent achieving five good grades including English and maths.

The village college based on Gibraltar Lane, Swavesey, which is considered to be ‘outstanding in every respect’ by OFSTED, also saw a significant proportion of students receiving the top grades across a number of subjects.

Martin Bacon

It is with great sadness that we announce that Mr Martin Bacon, who was CMAT’s Executive Principal, the Principal of Swavesey Village College, and a member of the Canada Goose
leadership team at Nene Park Academy from the summer of 2010, has died after a long illness at the Sue Ryder Hospice, Thorpe Kvinnor Canada Goose Hall, Peterborough at 5am on 13th May 2013.

CMAT chosen to sponsor The Manor School

Governors of The Manor school in Cambridge have unanimously chosen Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust as its preferred sponsor as the school prepares to become an Academy.

An Academy is an independent state school that receives its funding direct from the Department for Education rather than via the Local Authority.

Building work starts at Nene Park Academy

The plans for the new building have now been signed off and the contractors started on site in February 2012. The design (see attachement) of the £14 million programme of remodelling and new build reflects the academy’s philosophy with the combined House/Curriculum Team at its heart.

Northstowe Planning application submitted

On 27th February, the joint developers of Northstowe published their Phase 1 proposals for the development of the first 1500 homes, with a planned start date in 2013/4 – see www.northstowe.uk.com

The Trust has been working closely with the developers and the LA and District Council to ensure that we are able to deliver the highest quality education for secondary aged students from the very beginning of the development.
