As an outstanding-rated college, Swavesey’s influence extends well beyond its own walls. In March 2012 it became a designated Teaching School, and part of the Teaching School Alliance called Cambridge Teaching School Network (CTSN). In 2011, the Sunday Times ‘Good Schools Guide’ named Swavesey as the fourth best non-selective 11-16 state school in the country. The college’s 2011 Ofsted Report was a great endorsement of the many excellent things taking place within the school. Inspectors recognised that ‘there is absolutely no complacency’, reflecting the constant striving for improvement. In 2013, the college recorded another set of impressive GCSE results with 98 per cent of pupils passing with 5 or more A* - C grades, and 80 per cent achieving five good grades including English and Maths. Since 2011, the academy has seen a dramatic rise in attainment and performance. The number of pupils achieving five or more grades A* to C at GCSE including English and Maths has increased by 26 per cent. Ninety seven per cent of pupils achieved five or more A* to C grades at GCSE. In November 2013, Ofsted inspectors visited the school, rating it as “good and rapidly rising”. Twelve per cent of pupils at the academy achieved A* or A grades, while the average point score per pupil has increased by another 10 per cent on 2012 to 746. In September 2013, the school’s brand new £15 million building opened for the first time. The state-of-the-art building features purpose-built science laboratories, which will enhance teaching and learning of the academy’s specialist subject, as well as fully equipped IT and digital media studios. Nene Park also became the first school in Peterborough to achieve the AfPE Quality Mark for PE and sport. The school may be small with around 450 pupils, but it has a high profile and last year played host to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a visit to the city. Last summer the school recorded significantly improved GCSE results, with 39 per cent of pupils achieving the benchmark figure of five or more A* to C grades including English and Maths. This represents a 100 per cent improvement on the results of 2012, with significant improvements across the board. Improvements in achievement are expected to continue. The school will also receive a £10.3 million new build programme in the coming years which will replace everything but the school’s sports hall, which is relatively new. The academy will naturally adopt the principles and ethos of the rest of the CMAT family by introducing vertical tutoring, which ensures the treatment of every child as an individual. Their fabulous new building opens in November 2016, with state of the art facilities on a brand new site the children and staff are enthusiastic about the opportunities now on offer to them. We will be able to utilise brand new IT facilities for teaching and children’s use and start making the most of our new grounds, garden and nature areas. The children are already planning what additional equipment they would like in these areas. The design of the building means that inside there are large light flooded spaces for which we are working on some large artworks to display. Results of the new SATs last summer put us in the top 10 % of school nationally for progress in writing and maths both of which we were above national average in attainment. An impressive set of results building on last year’s significantly high progress in all subjects. The children at West Town Primary Academy are now achieving in line with or above national in many areas. Our wider curriculum means that the children are increasingly accessing a range of outdoor and adventurous learning activities and participating in a range of team competitions, to ensure they develop as happy and confident all round individuals. It will have its own town centre, schools, employment and a comprehensive public transport network. In 2009, CMAT was successful in winning a competition to establish the secondary school and post-16 provision in Northstowe. CMAT’s proposals, which were described by the Council as ‘innovative and ambitious’, were the result of nearly five years’ research, reflecting the very best practice in education. The town’s development was significantly affected by the economic downturn. However, progress is again being made and CMAT is playing a leading role as the 11–19 school promoters in discussion over the revised schedules of the development.. We hope the new school will the key magnet for people to move to Northstowe, thanks to its state-of-the-art facilities and by building upon the Trust’s values by offering the highest quality education and community provision..
