Ely College is set to join Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) following negotiations with DfE, the school’s current sponsor, CfBT Schools Trust (CST), and CMAT. The transfer of sponsorship is intended to take place this summer.
The planned transfer is the result of discussions with the Department for Education to secure local support for Ely College, with the aim of moving the school more quickly towards becoming ‘Good’ and beyond.
CMAT has a strong track record in improving achievement and attainment in the Cambridgeshire region. The Trust is committed to improving the quality of education and life in the county, and its immediate surroundings, and currently operates six schools across an area extending from Stamford to Cambridge.
Shirley Jamieson, Chair of CMAT, said: “We are very excited to be finalising an agreement to enable an academy with as much potential as Ely College to join our family of schools. CMAT exists to provide high-quality and dynamic education for everyone, in the heart of their communities. This clear vision is the focus of everything we do. We don’t have a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, and we will be talking to pupils and their families, teachers and the local community about how we move the College forward, quickly and inclusively. Our local knowledge and breadth of experience will help us add value to the foundations already in place.”
