Mike had an initial career in business and industry, gaining a Management Diploma, and working in HR and Organisational Management.
He then retrained as a social worker, and for several years managed a busy social work team in London, dealing with all care groups, inclusive of child care, adults and mental health. He went on to specialise elsewhere in the country in strategic and policy planning, and quality assurance, covering aspects of social care, education and health care.
Mike dealt with a number of child abuse enquiries, both locally and nationally.
Mike was approached by the then Audit Commission and central government to be part of a small team to compile and implement a national programme of performance management reviews of social care and established national guidelines for good practice in social work.
He then set up his own management consultancy business in social care and health, and spent 18 years advising over one third of all localities across the country.
Mike was a governor of Swavesey Primary School for 4 years, and later chaired the Governing Body of Swavesey Village College for 5 years. He worked with Martin Bacon in successfully winning the competition to open the secondary school and Sixth Form College at Northstowe.
He spent 8 years as a Trustee of CMAT, and in chairing the Governing Body is part of the team working towards the opening of the new secondary school in Northstowe.
